About Pregnancy Nutrition

Good nutrition is vital throughout pregnancy. Your baby depends on you for all the nutrients needed for healthy growth and development. A healthy diet is obviously essential, but certain supplements are also recommended to ensure sufficient intake. Our supplements include the recommended levels of folic acid which all women are recommended to take in the first trimester, as well as vitamin D, which all women are recommended to take throughout pregnancy. They contain no vitamin A which should not be supplemented during pregnancy.

Recommended supplements

We have specially developed multivitamin/mineral supplements for each trimester so that your body gets the nutrients it most needs during each of these specific stages of pregnancy. We would also recommend that you boost your intake of Omega 3 DHA which has an important role to play in the development of the foetus. This will also help maintain your own levels of Omega 3 which are taken by your growing baby.

Second trimester:

Vital Essence 2

Third trimester:

Vital Essence 3
Vital DHA

Recommended tests

Vitamin D

Vitamin D plays many crucial roles during pregnancy for both mother and baby. Many people have sub-optimal levels. We recommend testing to find this out as the standard recommended supplement dose for pregnancy may not be enough to correct a deficiency.

Nutrition consultation

Good nutrition is particularly important during the first trimester when your baby is developing and when the risk of miscarriage is at its highest. Your baby depends on you for all the nutrients needed for healthy growth and development. What you eat (and don’t eat) during pregnancy can have a profound effect on the health and wellbeing of your baby for his or her whole life. Because of the importance of good nutrition both for you and your baby’s health, and the increasing awareness of the potential impact of environmental toxins and food safety issues, we strongly recommend a consultation with one of our Nutritional Therapists as early as possible in your pregnancy.

Consultations last 60 minutes and can be carried out in person or by Skype. If you want to come as a couple we also offer a 90 minute consultation.
